Fearless Female Interview: Carlee
Who is your role model / a female that inspires you?
A female that inspires me is motivational speaker Mel Robbins. I love the she used her depression and hardship as a way to motivate others, and did not let herself sink. Now because of her inspirational story and amazing talent, she is one of the most booked motivational speakers in the world.
What does a fearless female look like to you?
To me, a fearless female is a women who keeps fighting no matter her circumstances and despite what others do or say to try and push her down.
Why do you think it's important to see more women in leadership positions?
I think that despite how far we have come as far as equality and women’s rights, we do still have a long way to go. There are still people in this world who believe women are not equal to men, and it is important for women to take action and work hard to achieve a leadership position to display that we are just as capable as any man.
Why is it important to encourage girls and women to pursue fields stereotypically dominated by men?
A lot of girls have been told by society that we cannot do something because we are girls, and that has caused some to not even try to pursue those goals. It is so important to encourage and support young girls to aspire to do whatever they want to do so that they are not afraid to go for their dreams and are never intimidated by men (or women) who tell her she can’t.
What advice would you give to young girls about being a fearless female or women struggling to recognize their power?
I would tell young girls to just keep fighting and never give up, because everyone has something that they are great at and everyone deserves to be recognized for what they can do. I would tell every young girl or woman to ignore the forces telling you that you can’t do something and just do it anyway.
What makes a feminist in your eyes?
A feminist is anyone who believes men and women should be treated and respected equally, and someone who supports everyone in their pursuits no matter their gender.
How do you work to make your feminism intersectional?
I recognize that women are still oppressed and are being treated unfairly in workplaces and many other circumstances. I also understand that there are so many different things a women could be involved in, and no matter what it is she should never be judged or brought down for doing anything.
How can girls and women support each other in today's world?
Empower each other. Never be bitter that another girl is getting something you want – support her and respect her. Lift each other up, and don’t waste time trying to bring other women down.
